Rams Fight Hard Against Giants

April 27, 2017

Saturday April 22 the Fresno City College Rams faced off against the Giants from College of The Sequoias.

It was the third time that week the teams had faced each other, FCC winning the two previous encounters.

Unfortunately the Rams lost the final game with a final score of  5-2.

The battle was hotly contested, COS came out strong scoring two runs at the top of the first inning.

But FCC would not go down easily, infielder Sal Esparza gave the Rams their first run at the bottom of the first.

Outfielder for the Rams, Nick Sheehan, helped scored the Rams second run by giving Jacob Paradine the opportunity to run in from third base.

The Rams defense did their best to stop further offensive from COS, but the Giants’ center fielder Andrew Perez managed to help get two more runs for COS at the top of the third inning.

The Rams made some adjustments after that, substituting pitcher Efrain Del Rio for Kobe Portillo in the fourth inning.

But the Giants still managed to score a run in the same inning against the replacement pitcher.

The Rams were close to turning the game around in the fifth when a ball struck by  infielder Michael Beltran appeared to have hit the wall before being caught by COS.

Unfortunately the official did not see it that way and thus the runs that occurred thanks to Beltran’s hit were not counted and the Giants’ returned to bat.

The rest of the game was a stalemate as neither team could get the upper hand over the other.

Head Coach Ron Scott said about the game, “They just beat us, we beat them two out of three this week which was our goal initially but this was a tough one to lose”.

The Rams fought in a back and forth game and they still have three games against Porterville, three games they seem prepared for as Scott added, “We played 37 games this season, we just gotta keep playing”.
