Hit, Hit! Hooray!

The Women’s softball team had a stellar Valentine’s Day weekend winning three of four games in Monterey, California scoring forty runs in the process.

The Rams continued their offensive onslaught Feb. 18 against The Bakersfield City College Renegade Knights, winning 18-5 in a shortened five inning game.

Sophomore Sarah Santana made her presence known on the mound, only allowing two runs over four strong innings pitched.

The Renegade Knights jumped on the board early, hitting a leadoff home run in the top of the first, but Santana settled in quickly and stopped the rally before it even began.

The Rams wasted no time at the plate in the bottom of the first, tying the game back up on a double to the wall from sophomore Aubrey Blankenburg.

After a quiet top of the second inning, the floodgates opened. The Rams’ offense batted around and exploded for eight runs to take a commanding 10-1 lead.

Sophomore Savannah Ibal got two hits in the second inning alone, starting the rally with a one-out double and smacking a single to right her next time up.

Freshman Karen Zamora kept the rally alive with a key two-out walk, and sophomore Macy Denney would make the walk hurt with a two RBI single two batters later.

Sara Specht, a freshman, capped off the big inning with an even bigger three-run home run, and the Rams never looked back.

Freshman Paige Reichle was on fire at the plate, collecting three hits, two RBIs, two stolen bases and also scored three times.  She was a key part in the huge second inning for the Rams, launching a two RBI double in the gap and later scoring.

She helped keep Bakersfield on their heels with leadoff singles in both the third and fourth innings; and showed off her speed, stealing two bases helping to manufacture important runs to put the game out of reach.

The Knights wouldn’t go down quietly, scoring three runs in the top of the fifth inning, but it was too little too late and freshman Heather Helm shut the door for the Rams once again.
