Baseball Team Advance to Final 4

The second-seeded Rams (33-9) advanced to next weekend’s CCCAA Final Four with a wild 9-7 victory over No.3 Feather River in Game 2 of a Sectionals series at John Euless Ballpark.

The rams won in the 10th inning with two wild plays, first being Freshman Logan Poisall scoring on a wild pitch and then Freshman Tucker Salles scored on a passed ball, giving Fresno City a 9-7 lead over Feather River in the top of the 10th.

Fresno City College coach Ron Scott needed a strong showing from his team in the closeout game of the three game series and he got just that, with the Rams having No. 3 Feather River College on the ropes after a close 2-1 victory on Friday, this game capped a long weekend of baseball for the rams.

“We kept battling we put the pressure on them all game,” said Head Coach Ron Scott.

Fresno City on Friday will host the winner of San Mateo (30-11) and San Joaquin Delta (37-5) in the double-elimination setting.

Four sectional winners,  two each from Northern and Southern California will move on to the state championships May 23-25 at Euless.

Fresno City scored 2 in the top of the first with an RBI from Sophomores Christian Funk and Scott Silva.  Aaron Simms single to right field drove in Joe Garabedian. Golden Glove MVP Zak Taylor scored on a Funk RBI and it was all FCC at that point with a 4-1.

Feather River got a run in the in the 4th, then the bottom of the 5th inning came around for the Eagles and it all broke loose.

Sophomore Infielder Michael Reynolds hit a two-run home run  for Feather River that cut FCC lead’s down to one.

Then reliever Justin Heskett hit a Eagles batter with the bases loaded, that would tie the game.

David Rapanot delivered a two-run single that would give Feather River a 6-4 in the 5th.

“That’s a good team over there, said Sophomore Daniel Gardner. They battled and didn’t quite.”

The rams fought back and scored twice on a run-scoring single and an error that would get Funk home safley. The game was tied a six apiece.

Scott Silva scored the go-ahead run in the top of the 7th innings.

With things looking to be wrapped up  the Rams brought in Closer of the Year  Freshman Shane Desmond, he tied for the FCC single-season record for saves with 10.

With a 1-2 count and only 1 out left to advance to the CCCAA Final Four Feather River’s Garrett Powers drove in the tying run that would send the game into extra innings.

“Win the inning, win the game,” said Scott as his team went into the extra inning. His team was focused and seized their opportunity.

“It was a team win, we came together as a team and put up some runs, along with good defense with was an all-around effort,” said Scott Silva.

Desmond got his second win of the season to go along with his 10 saves.
