Former Fresno City College President, Tony Cantu. Cantu died over the Easter weekend and a scholarship in his honor is being created by his family.

A scholarship in the name of the late Fresno City College President, Tony Cantu has been created.

“This is something that is set up by the family,” said Bill Stewart, State Center Community College District interim chancellor. “But we do agree with that decision, he loved students and we all hope that this scholarship in his memory lives on.”

All donations are being collected through the State Center Community College Foundation where donations can be made to as well. The foundation will match any donation made.

“We’ve been able to raise $3,000 so far, with the match we’re at around $6,000,” Stewart said. “If we can get to around $10,000 we can try to make it recurring, so that’s obviously our goal.”

Donations to the scholarship fund may be done by check, credit card or online. Check donations may be made out to SCCCF with a notation in the memo: “Tony Cantú Scholarship.”

They may be mailed to State Center Community Foundation at: 390 W. Fir Avenue, Suite 300 Clovis, CA 93611.

Eligibility details for the scholarship have not been released by the family but  will be made.
